JOB SUMMARY:

Oversees the daily shop function to maintain and provide quality products in accordance with production plans material schedules and job specifications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  2. Coordinates work assignments with Plant Superintendent, production control personnel and project managers to ensure that products are completed in a quality controlled timely fashion; schedules and organizes workflow and shop priorities.
  3. Writes up maintenance work orders for repair of tools and equipment.
  4. Monitors shop productivity to ensure quality and output standards are met.
  5. Coordinates with various Company departments regarding work and estimates job orders, transfer of materials between departments, and transfer of finished goods.
  6. Maintains various communication forms for information regarding product and material information, travelers, work orders, estimates and material identification and locations; prepares monthly reports, as well as ad hoc reports requested by departments.
  7. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety/environmental, quality, and production practices.
  8. Ensures adherence to established Company and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety standards.
  9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified

OR:

  • Commensurate work experience that is deemed appropriate and acceptable by the hiring manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to read and write Bi-Lingual Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and teach blueprint reading to subordinates.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate the operations of a manufacturing/fabrication shop.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Employee development and performance management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
  • Skill in the use of computer spreadsheet and database software.
  • Ability to process computer data and to format and generate reports.
  • Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
  • Knowledge and/or training in 5S and lean manufacturing is a plus.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Successful candidate must submit to post offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check.
  • Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license is a requirement for this job.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • Work involves moderate to heavy exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Moderate to heavy physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Work environment involves exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require strict understanding and adherence to safety precautions.
