Shift: 2nd Shift (3:30 PM – 11:00 AM)
Compensation: $30 – $38 per hour
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Refrigeration Technician to join our team for the 2nd shift. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge in operating, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing ammonia-based refrigeration systems, standalone HVAC rack systems, boiler, and hot water systems. This role is critical for ensuring optimal operation of these systems while maintaining compliance with company safety protocols, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations. You will work both independently and as part of a team to maintain system integrity and ensure production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate, test, troubleshoot, and repair ammonia-based refrigeration systems and related sub-systems.
- Maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair rack-mounted, stand-alone gas refrigerant HVAC units.
- Operate, test, troubleshoot, and repair boiler and hot water systems, including all related equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on refrigeration, HVAC, boiler, and hot water systems.
- Rebuild system components following technical manuals and established best practices.
- Complete necessary documentation, including Work Orders (WOs), PSM-related modifications, and refrigeration system operation notes.
- Conduct daily rounds and inspections of ammonia system temperatures and conditions.
- Participate in regular safety and environmental training, including monthly PSM and tri-annual ammonia systems training.
- Adhere to all company policies and environmental, safety, and operational protocols.
- Other duties as assigned by the plant engineer or supervisor.
Required Skills:
- Ammonia Refrigeration: Extensive experience operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Food Plant Experience: Prior experience working with refrigeration in food manufacturing or processing plants.
- Boiler and HVAC Systems: Proven ability to maintain and repair boiler systems and stand-alone HVAC units.
- Mechanical and Electrical Skills: Intermediate to advanced skills in hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Packaging Equipment Experience: Familiarity with packaging systems used in food processing.
- Certifications in Ammonia Refrigeration: Operator I, II, or III certifications, as well as PSM/RMP knowledge in accordance with OSHA Standard 29CFR 1910.119.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English): Ability to communicate in both languages is a plus.
Required Experience:
- Ammonia Refrigeration: 3-5 years of experience working with ammonia-based refrigeration systems.
- Industrial Maintenance: At least 3 years of experience in industrial maintenance, with 2+ years in the meat packing or food processing industry.
Nice-to-Have Experience:
- Experience working with packaging equipment in a food production environment.
Working Conditions:
- Regular exposure to potentially dangerous machinery, electrical, mechanical, and chemical hazards.
- Work is performed in environments with temperatures ranging from 30°F to 50°F, and floors are often damp and slick.
- High noise levels and constant activity are common.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
- Flexibility in scheduling is essential, as quitting times may vary based on production needs.
Education and Certifications:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certifications: Ammonia Refrigeration Operator I/II/III certifications are preferred but not required.
