Application Support Specialist Opening, San Antonio, TX

The individual will be responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of the company’s Core and all third-party Core applications. The individual will also be responsible for scheduling updates, upgrades, maintenance, database troubleshooting, and performance monitoring. The individual will troubleshoot hardware and software problems and support network security policies and procedures. They will also perform system backups and test data recovery.
 
The individual will analyze, user’s requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or to improve existing core system applications. Responsible for developing, enhancing, and sustaining core system applications within the companies and testing those systems to ensure maximum availability and uptime on the core. The individual provides input to the management team regarding the prioritization of projects based on FMCU’s strategic plan, and discussions with the internal customer community.
 
The individual will collaborate with other members of the Application-Development and Network System Operations Teams to ensure data remains consistent across the databases, data is clearly defined, data can be accessed concurrently in a form that suits the user’s needs, and that the appropriate level of security and disaster recovery elements are in place so that data can be recovered based on FMCU’s DR plans.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Provide day-to-day operations and administrative support of the Symitar system and performs either the day or night production/operations cycle using SMA’s Opcon job scheduler.
  • Implement new processing within the Symitar system scheduling (Opcon) software so that staff can be more efficient in their business areas.
  • Perform all Core and third-party Core application upgrades and releases using the four phases of the project management life cycle.
  • Provide support and training to Core Operations Analyst personnel on checklists, AIX host system administration, Symitar Database system administration, and maintenance.
  • Maintains and utilizes a thorough knowledge of IBM’s AIX operating systems, Symitar SYMOP, job control language, procedures, and report generation to ensure the quality and timeliness of computer-generated reports.
  • Perform semi-annual disaster recovery testing. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and other reporting as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties and help desk support as needed.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, required.
  • 1- 3 years’ experience in the IT field, required. 1-3 years with application support experience, preferred.

  • Been an instrumental part of a team responsible for business-critical applications support.
  • Able to respond to critical process failures as they arise.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of Symitar, Opcon, AIX, etc., preferred not required.
