AV System Design Engineer Opening, San Antonio, TX

AV System Design Engineers are an integral part of the organization and have a significant role in the designed and installed systems. The organization provides A/V systems for many facilities, such as arenas, airports, schools, stadiums, houses of worship, healthcare facilities, entertainment, military, government, broadcast, production, and corporate. Typical A/V systems include boardrooms, meeting rooms, training rooms, videoconferencing, lighting systems, command and control rooms, network operation centers (NOC), paging systems, sound systems, video presentation systems, and more. Most systems are digital and controlled by computers using software designed by the organization’s calibrations engineers. The engineer is responsible for designing the systems, preparing CAD system drawings, programming DSP, designing AV computer control systems, meeting with clients, inspecting, testing, working at job sites, and training the customer. Every engineer is expected to approach all projects emphasizing safety, quality design, installation, and service.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent Experience

  • Experience with AutoCAD/Visio Required

  • Programming experience preferred (C/C+/Crestron/Extron or equivalent)

  • Excellent communication and computer skills

  • Personal interest in electronics, music, sound, acoustics, video, lighting, and/or computer networking

  • Experience with the design and installation of professional audio, video, network, Security, access control and lighting systems

  • Experience in AV System Design and/or Security System Design

  • VISIO/AutoCAD experience is required: 5 years of experience is minimum

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Translate customer requirements into functional system designs

  • Develop engineering and architectural (RCP/Floor Plan) drawings, calculations, and acoustical modeling

  • Review pre-construction design and documentation

  • Assist with technical design, pricing and identify any logistical challenges

  • Generate functional system descriptions and block diagrams

  • Identify all cabling and miscellaneous material needs

  • Design wall plates and overlays

  • Provide material and labor estimates for projects

  • Provide engineering support to project installation team when needed

  • Obtain project sign-off as needed

  • Customer liaison for engineering inquires

  • Meet with vendors/prospective vendors to help evaluate products

  • Post sales project consultation

  • Travel to various job sites is required

  • Other duties assigned as needed

Skills and Abilities

  • Proven business writing skills

  • Proficient with test and calibration equipment

  • Proficient in VISIO & AutoCAD – 3 years minimum

  • Support user acceptance testing

  • Ability to program, change and troubleshoot (Crestron/QSC/BiAmp)

  • Ability to diagnose complex system problems

  • Advanced computer skills as required for the design, configuration, and operation of AV equipment

  • Ability to work and think independently and ensuring to meet deadlines

  • Effective communication and interaction with employees, clients, and colleagues

  • Valid Driver’s License and a Motor Vehicle

  • Ability to read and interpret system documentation including manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and other project information

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma

  • Formal education in Electronics or related field preferred

  • Experience with CAD/AutoCAD/Visio preferred

  • At least five years of AV experience is preferred

  • AV industry certification CTS, CTS-D preferred

  • Design Engineering: 3 years (Preferred)

  • Audio Visual: 5 years (Preferred)

  • A minimum of 1-2 years of AV experience plus a four-year degree

  • Association for Quality in AV CQD and CQT certifications

  • Crestron or AMX classes and certifications

  • Crestron Digital Media certification (DMC-D, DMC-E, DMC-T)

  • Polycom CVE certification.

Position: Full Time, Monday to Friday: 7:30 to 3:30
