CNC Machinist

Position Summary

Responsible for producing machined parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control machine while maintaining quality and safety standards. This position is expected to uphold the mission, vision and values established by the organization.

Essential Functions

  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces and machining parameters, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances.

  • Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation and conditional switches, calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry and trigonometry, providing part programs.

  • Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting required tools and attachments

  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part and sample workpieces

  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.

  • Perform other duties and tasks as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Minimum 3 years CNC machining experience

  • Ability to read and comprehend drawings and blueprints

  • Ability to read G & M codes

  • Ability to set up lathes and mills

  • Ability to program edits at the control

  • Ability to read, write and speak in the English language

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Work Conditions/Environment

Majority of work will be performed in manufacturing environment subject to changing climate and temperatures. Additional environments include, but are not limited to, meeting with customers or other business contacts both in field locations (work sites), customer offices, third party locations and company facilities; exposure to standard construction, manufacturing and engineering lab conditions.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk; use hands and fingers to feel and handle; reach with arms and hands; talk and hear. The employee may be required to bend; twist, stoop, crouch or kneel on an infrequent basis. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
