The Maintenance Technician is responsible for comprehensive field installation, startup, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of company-supplied equipment across multiple products. Depending on the contract or project terms, this role may include planning, scheduling, coordinating, cost control, and monitoring the work in an advisory capacity, as well as supervising company employees performing the work. This position also involves documenting all job activities. The engineer is expected to become proficient in basic systems technologies.
Key Responsibilities and Duties/Essential Functions
- Lead complex equipment trial runs, investigative tests, repairs, and overhauls.
- Demonstrate proven experience and strong affinity for working with software tools.
- Analyze and interpret large volumes of complex data (e.g., bug reports, production data).
- Provide advanced product and service training to customers.
- Lead and participate in complex service calls, interfacing with customer personnel to deliver quality service and feedback on problem evaluation and resolution.
- Assess complex product/equipment performance based on field support data and recommend design modifications or improvements.
- Perform complex and technically demanding work within a specialized technical area.
- Troubleshoot and consult on potential problems, providing effective solutions in relation to the application of concepts, techniques, knowledge, or processes.
- Demonstrate leading-edge or extensive knowledge in a technical or specialty area.
- Provide expert advice, training, and technical assistance to support staff and other Field Service team members, and train other employees as needed.
Work Environment
- This job operates at customer factory sites or within a home or office environment.
Physical Demands
- While performing job duties, the employee may need to position themselves to work on equipment at customer sites, which can include bending, standing, lying on the floor, and leaning to access machine parts.
- Employees must also move between locations, remain in one position for extended periods, communicate with others, and exchange information.
- May need to lift or move machine parts or other items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Expected Hours of Work
- Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, or as assigned by the supervisor based on customer requirements.
- Regular overtime and weekend work are required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Self-starter with minimal supervision needed.
- Excellent hands-on skills with the ability to navigate through complex problems.
- Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical background.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to logically troubleshoot complex hardware, software, application, and process-related issues and convey this information clearly to customers.
- Practical and theoretical in-depth knowledge of PLS/PRS software products.
- Intermediate to advanced experience with the installation, networking, functional use, and troubleshooting of PLS/PRS products.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken; intermediate to advanced Spanish language skills are a plus.
- Able to work overtime and weekends as needed.
- Minimum of an associate's degree in a STEM-related discipline.
