Summary
Our client is looking for a Network System Engineer to report to the Director of IT at their San Antonio headquarters, to serve as technical lead for maintaining the core network for a leading manufacturing and engineering organization.
Reporting & Supervisory Responsibility
- This position reports to the Director IT
- This position is the technical lead for infrastructure projects and provides knowledge transfer to other IT team members where appropriate
Key Job Elements
- Maintain and design server environments using VMWare and various storage technologies
- FortiGate firewall experience and knowledge beneficial along with other firewall technologies
- Extensive hands on experience with Cisco networking systems
- Designing and administering computer networks and related computing environments including systems software, applications software, hardware, and configurations
- Performing disaster recovery operations and data backups when required
- Firewall design and management
- Protecting data, software, and hardware by coordinating, planning and implementing network security measures
- Troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving network performance issues
- Life cycling network/server hardware/software components as needed
- Maintaining, configuring, and monitoring virus protection software and email applications
- Conferring with network users about resolving performance issues
- Monitoring the performance of networks and computer systems
- Coordinating computer network access and use
- Designing, configuring and testing networking software, computer hardware, and operating system software
- Provide training and knowledge transfer to others within the IT organization
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Information technology with a focus on network development and system security or equivalent experience
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in network and server development and security
- VMWare support and deployment in a Microsoft Windows environment
- Strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware
- Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions
- Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewall, routers, switches, and controllers.
- Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols
- Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems
- Provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection
- Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and internet resources
- Ability to work with all levels of staff within and outside of IT and outside the organization
- A self-starter able to work independently but comfortable working in a team environment
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Dependable and flexible when necessary
