Job Summary:
The Quality Inspector ensures that all products comply with customer specifications, welding codes, and material standards. This role initiates, tracks, and documents non-conformance reports while maintaining accurate records of inspection activities. The inspector works independently to uphold quality standards, guaranteeing customer satisfaction and adherence to internal policies.
The Quality Inspector ensures that all products comply with customer specifications, welding codes, and material standards. The inspector works independently to uphold quality standards, guaranteeing customer satisfaction and adherence to internal policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the entire production process, from receiving raw materials to the final shipment of finished products.
- Perform dimensional verifications to ensure proper fit and configuration of components.
- Review plans, contract documents, and fabrication specifications to identify and resolve potential issues.
- Inspect shop assemblies to verify dimensional accuracy and compliance.
- Monitor welding operations and perform final inspections of weldments for code and specification compliance.
- Set up and calibrate nondestructive testing (NDT) equipment, including Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT).
- Conduct NDT to detect defects and ensure the quality of weldments.
- Evaluate welders’ performance, identifying training needs when necessary.
- Witness welding and testing for Procedure and Welder Qualification tests.
- Generate non-conformance reports, tag affected materials, and monitor repair progress.
- Act independently under the guidance of the Quality Manager to ensure the quality policy is followed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification by the American Welding Society.
- Documented Level II certification or training in UT and MT per ASNT SNT-TC-1A.
- Must pass a vision test (Jaeger J2 at 12 inches or greater) and annual color contrast differentiation tests.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in the use of measuring devices and tools.
- Strong understanding of welding codes, specifications, and nondestructive examination processes.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes relevant to the company’s products.
- Ability to inspect and ensure parts and assemblies meet production drawings and company quality standards.
- Knowledge of painting, galvanizing, and related inspection techniques.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
- Capability to enforce safety procedures and communicate technical information clearly.
