Job Summary:
A roll thread operator would primarily be responsible for setting up and operating machinery that uses a thread rolling process to create threads on fasteners, ensuring the quality and accuracy of the threads by monitoring the machine, inspecting parts, and making adjustments as needed, while adhering to production standards and safety guidelines; essentially, they are the skilled workers who produce threaded fasteners by utilizing a specialized thread rolling machine.
Key Responsibilities:
- Selecting the appropriate thread rolling dies based on the fastener specifications, installing them correctly on the machine, and setting machine parameters like feed rate and pressure.
- Monitoring the thread rolling process, feeding raw materials into the machine, and adjusting settings as needed to maintain consistent thread quality.
- Regularly checking finished parts using measuring tools like micrometers and gauges to verify thread dimensions and tolerances are within specifications.
- Identifying and resolving any issues that arise during the thread rolling process, such as machine malfunctions or inconsistent thread quality.
- Keeping the work area and machinery clean to prevent contamination and ensure proper operation.
- Recording production data and quality control information as needed.
Technical knowledge:
Understanding the principles of thread rolling, the different types of thread profiles, and how to interpret blueprints and specifications.
Attention to detail:
Maintaining precision in the thread rolling process to ensure consistent quality.
Mechanical aptitude:
Ability to troubleshoot machine issues and perform basic maintenance tasks.
