The Shipping / Freight Lead reports to the Assistant Warehouse Manager and is responsible for overseeing shipping operations, coordinating with carriers, managing inventory tasks for specific jobs and ensuring accurate documentation for shipments.  

 

Essential Functions:

Shipping and Logistics Coordination:

§  Oversee preparation of company products for transportation.

§  Coordinate and track movement of goods through logistic pathways.

§  Contact carrier representatives to make arrangements and issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.

§  Interact with various internal departments to coordinate timing of outbound shipments.

§  Ensure proper, timely, and accurate processing of inventory commitment against sales orders.

§  Ensure timely completion of shipments.

 

Team Supervision:

§  Supervise and assist personnel in loading trucks in a safe and efficient manner.

§  Maintain a neat, organized department conducive to safety and productivity.

§  Perform all duties in a safe and responsible manner.

§  Ensure all work-related activities and functions are performed in a professional and ethical manner in compliance with company principles.

 

Issue Resolution and Communication:

§  Resolve issues regarding shipped goods.

§  Correspond with the Shipping Manager to resolve problems and discrepancies.

§  Report all major issues to the Warehouse Manager.

 

Logistics Service Evaluation:

§  Evaluate logistics service providers to determine effectiveness. 

§  Suggest and implement changes to improve service levels. 

§  Interact and negotiate with providers as needed.

 

Cost Efficiency:

§  Perform duties effectively in the most cost-efficient manner possible.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

§  Perform all other duties as assigned.

 

Qualification & Education Requirements:

§  High school diploma is required.

§  Minimum of three to five year’s experience in shipping, receiving, or logistics, and at least three year’s experience in a leadership role. 

§  Must be able to lift 100 pounds and work in a non-climate-controlled environment.   

§  Strong knowledge of shipping procedures, freight management, and logistics best practices.  

§  Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively.  

§  Experience working in a fast-paced environment, and meeting deadlines. 

§  Address and resolve issues with professionalism.

§  Requires adequate vision acuity.  

§  Proficient in the use of shipping software, inventory management systems, and Microsoft Office.

§  Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team.  

§  Communicate effectively with all levels of company structure, outside vendors and customers.  

§  Strong computer and math skills. 

§  Able to operate all warehouse equipment. 

§  Occasional long hours and weekend work are required.
