EIT/Graduate Engineer – On Site in San Antonio, TX
Job Overview
The Graduate/Staff Engineer is a member of an engineering design team and is supervised by a Project Engineer or a Project Manager. Types of projects include municipal/public works projects, commercial and private development, single and multifamily development, water resources, and responsible for completing design and analysis using various engineering software.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist the Project Engineer/Project Manager in the preparation of civil design plans and specifications. Drawings may include site plans, grading plans, utility plans, drainage plans, utility plans, and profiles, and preparing opinions of probable construction costs.
- Perform analysis and calculations including drainage calculations, water and sewer usage, slope, pipe, weir, and orifice calculations, channel calculations, and use pertinent software as required.
- Prepare technical reports, letters, and project schedules using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Prepare permit applications, meeting minutes, and compile field observation notes.
- Prepare engineering and design documents using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, or an equivalent engineering degree, from an ABET-accredited college or university. Note, ABET accreditation is beneficial, however, it may be substituted for years of experience.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or eligibility to obtain an EIT certification, with the Texas Board of Professional Engineering and Land Surveyors.
- 0 to 5 years of experience in the civil engineering field. Note, an internship at a similar civil engineering firm is beneficial and should be noted.
- Graduate/Staff Engineer must have a working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with engineering software programs such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PondPack, and StormCAD, are beneficial and should be highlighted. Graduate/Staff Engineer is expected to learn and have a working knowledge of this software during the first 12 months of employment.
- Graduate/Staff Engineer should possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships on a project team and have effective communication skills, both oral and written. Minimal communication with clients and/or public agencies is expected.
- Graduate/Staff Engineer must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills and be able to manage both time and assigned tasks, with flexibility when deadlines or the client’s needs change.
- Graduate/Staff Engineer should be reliable, dependable, and willing to learn from their assigned Project Engineer/Project Manager.
Working Conditions
- Normal working hours are on-site in our main office, Mondays through Fridays from 8 AM to 5 PM.
- Graduate/Staff Engineers may encounter occasional overtime.
- Graduate/Staff Engineer is frequently required to be and remain in a stationary position at a desk using a computer workstation.
- On occasion, the employee may be required to drive in a vehicle and transit to project sites and/or project meetings.
- Training such as, but not limited to, AutoCAD Civil 3D, engineering software and modeling, best practices, and professional continuing education hours are provided year-round.
