Summary
Help us build and maintain cutting edge software services in the K-12 Education market. In this role, you’ll be responsible for the design, delivery, and maintenance of software systems serving thousands of K-12 districts across North America. The Senior DevOps Engineer is a unique contributor on our small team. Your day-to-day duties will involve spearheading our evolution to cloud-native tech and continuous improvement of our devops infrastructure. Your choices will directly influence the effectiveness of at least a dozen other engineers. This role requires a high degree of autonomy and independence, with the ability to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders, show good judgment, and lead our team toward highly effective processes and technologies. The ideal candidate has strong experience fulfilling one of these roles (or an equivalent role): Cloud architect, Site Reliability Engineer, DevOps / DevSecOps Engineer, Systems / Operations Engineer.
Typical Tasks/Duties
● DevOps and cloud systems continue to undergo rapid changes. Stay at the forefront of industry best practices and help
elevate your peers through knowledge sharing, documentation, process definition, and system implementation.
● Work with our operations team to identify gaps in our software delivery and operational systems & processes, and
propose & execute concrete plans to improve them.
● Own our continued transition to cloud-native systems and processes.
● Own our transition to infrastructure as code, including process definition and implementation of system automation.
● Own our CI/CD processes, and work to elevate the effectiveness of our Product Delivery Teams. Work with Product
Delivery Teams to identify areas of improvement and automate processes.
● Help lead the organization to a higher level of operational maturity.
● Define, standardize, and automate software delivery processes around industry best practices.
● Plan, design, integrate, and deliver internal system improvements focused on observability (including application
monitoring), automation, scale up, and cost reduction.
● L2 support of production systems including working directly with customers and internal resources
● Analyze systems and gather requirements
● Contribute to shared code libraries
● Contribute to special projects
● Perform other tasks as required
Qualifications
Must haves
● Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field and/or equivalent experience
● Demonstrate expertise with devops-related technologies and practices: Kubernetes, containers & OCI ecosystem, AWS,
networking, terraform, etc.
● Experience with several Kubernetes ecosystem technologies (examples: Argo tools, Helm, etc)
● Demonstrated experience with relational and document databases.
● Strong software engineering experience (source control, unit testing, design, and process)
● Strong experience with Linux & operating system fundamentals.
● Production experience with one or more language (Java, JavaScript / TypeScript, C#, Python, Ruby, Groovy, etc.)
● PowerShell, Bash, Command-line, or other scripting experience
● Ability to demonstrate you are humble, hungry, and smart. This means being able to take criticism well; be assertive
enough to ask for help; contribute in a team environment; be willing to admit being wrong and learn from any mistakes;
stick to an issue or problem and never give up on a customer. This also means not being a jerk.
